"I have been to many exciting playoff games at Yankee Stadium during the last 11 years when the place was rocking so hard that the upper deck was shaking. When SU was driving down the field with a minute to go and Marvin Graves was throwing up on the sideline between plays, my head hurt so bad from the noise that I had to lay down."

Weather

September 4th, 2007

After fifty-one years, I still remember toting my large art portfolio, which acted as a sail, catching the wind and propelling me across the quad on my way to class from Sims. I also felt that the fluid in my eyes and nose was frozen!

We’re the greatest at SU

September 4th, 2007

One of my first memories was our class song: “We’re the class of ‘72, we’re the greatest at SU.”

Other random memories:

Separate men’s and women’s dorms, placard cheering at Archbold, spending lots of time at the WAER Quonset hut, the last draft lottery, Cambodia, Kent State, the student strike, the Dingelman, water fights, students I met who remain my friends 35 years later, Cosmos, M Street, Mt. Olympus, and some of the best years of my life were at SU.

SU Memory

September 4th, 2007

In my junior year the SU Men’s Basketball team landed in the Final Four. At the time I was working in the NYS Assembly and a friend of mine and I drove back and forth for the games.

It was exciting being a part of such history and being so close to the action. At the time I was torn between wanting to be on M Street and at the real game, but in the end being at the Meadowlands was fantastic even though we weren’t the champions.

1973-1977

Most favorite memories are those from ConCan (the former Continental Can Company warehouse on Water St., now gone, that housed the sculpture studios ). Rodger Mack’s Friday night “pours” –the coffee pot that was never really cleaned — the Halloween (and many other) parties there — Maybe everyone was glad to move, in later years, to the new facilities, but Rodger Mack was the heart and soul of ConCan; his attitude, his relaxed approach, helped to make it the place I felt the most comfortable, the most myself, the most part of something wonderful. I hope I never forget it.

Goon Squad

September 4th, 2007

When I arrived at SU Freshman year, in 1972, I was greeted by upper classmen affectionately called…The Goon Squad. These students helped unpack my car, guided me to my room, and provided a warm welcome. I later learned that The Goon Squad was a longstanding SU tradition. Of course, I volunteered and enjoyed participating. We used to have a show –a hilarious musical satire–every homecoming weekend. It was great fun. Has this wonderful tradition continued? I never hear anything about The Goon Squad or their show.
